“I SIT” “I DREAM” — simple acts and simple words, but neither were made easily.

nypl: On June 23, 1963, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. declared, “I Have a Dream,” to a crowd of 150,000 people—including Rosa Parks—at Cobo Hall in Detroit, in a speech that forecast his most famous speech two months later at the March on Washington.

In honor of Dr. King’s birthday, we present an image from The  Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture  Photographs and Prints Division, which is featured in their digital exhibition “Africana Age.”
