Hello Friends,
My NY boosterism is in full effect. I’ve culled the OHNY lists to recommend my favorite to all of you who I think will enjoy seeing NY from a different next weekend as part of Open House NY. To be honest, there seems like less free access to unerground tunnel, secret space than I remember in the past, but there’s still TONS to do. So …
See all there is to do here as a PDF.
And sign up here or view the events in non-PDF here.
I want to do so many. Join me! I will be deciding and signing up this afternoon so let me know if you have favorites and we can coordinate.
My top pick (because I’m a public works/infrastructure dork) The Newtown Creek Giant Egg Tour. You know the plant on the skyline. Now go inside it.
- This Architecture building workshop looks fun for all ages.
- I also really like this one, but it is a hike, literally. Five mile walk along old Croton Aqueduct.
- Public art bike tour could be fun. (A couple of you already doing this, so that’s a plus)
- Watching glass blowing at Brooklyn Glass (Fiery drama!)
- This one is easy, but what the hell is the Salmagundi Club (plush and swank)
- NY Public Library tour (Fancy interior architecture explained)
- Blacksmith demonstrations — not that exciting, but if we are nearby worth stopping by I think.
- Some of you might want to do this one for convenience, Upper West Side stories walking tour.
Ones I like that might be full, can’t tell.
- Secrets of the street grid revealed on a bike tour. (Would be my fav I think but looks full, have to check)
- Contemporary Architecture tour.
- So much literary and music history the Ghosts of Greenwich Village Scavenger Hunt would be fun.
- Seeing how wooden boats are made.
